Blake Ellis from The Voice Season 28

Blake Ellis is among the artists who auditioned for Season 28 of The Voice.

Season 28 kicks off Monday, Sept. 22 with the coaching quartet of Reba McEntire, Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan and Michael Bublé.

Here’s more about Blake:

* He describes himself as a bassist and utility musician on Instagram and most of his recent posts there are bass-guitar focused.

* But don’t let that fool you. This Nashville-based artist is also a singer-songwriter who’s released a good deal of music.

* That includes a debut album called “Reality” the dropped in 2021 and started with a Kickstarter campaign four years earlier. Blake also released an unplugged version of the album.

* He’s since released a pair of singles — “Just Take Time” and “Dreamgirl” — and a live EP. Check out the music video to “Dreamgirl” below.

* His latest release is a cover of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” — a collaboration with Brandon Ellis. They recorded the song as a tribute to fellow musician John P. Smith, who died of cancer in Nov. 2023. Blake also has a tribute to him tattoed on his left arm.

* Blake is from Wichita, Kansas. In an online bio, he says he fell in love with music and taught himself to play guitar around age 10 and began writing his own music when he was in high school.

* He attended Friends University in Wichita and was a member of he Singing Quakers choir. He later served as student worship coordinator at Central Community Church for six years.

* He moved to the Nashville area to pursue music in 2022 and spent a good deal of time touring as a tech with contemporary Christian artist Zach Williams.

* Blake says he’s also an avid photographer, videographer and traveler who checked Hawaii and Alaska off his goal of visiting all 50 states this summer.

* Among his most recent covers is a version of The Eagles’ “Take It Easy.” Writes Blake: “Any time life gets crazy or hard to do at times, I lean on this song as an anthem and comfort. Remember to ‘Take it Easy’ sometimes.”
