Haley Smith, Season 11

Meet Hollywood bound Haley Smith

She’s a vegetarian working as a meat packer.

And that’s just one of three jobs held by Orem, Utah, resident Haley Smith, who also works as a busser in a restaurant and as a house cleaner.

No wonder she was trying to win a golden ticket to Hollywood when American Idol visited Aspen.

The then-18-year-old succeeded, putting her own spin on “Tell Me Something Good,” to the delight of the Idol judges.

“I just love the commitment to you just being who you are,” Randy Jackson told her. “We always tell people to make it your own. You don’t have to sound like the record.”

Steven Tyler said simply: “I love your voice.”

Whether it’s true or not, Idol portrayed Haley as a backwoods, outdoors type of gal.  In her Idol video, she praised the Utah scenery in the area where she lives.

But in the golden ticket interview that followed, she was asked what she first thought of after advancing.

Her response: She’d enjoy the warmer weather in Hollywood.

As for her goal on Idol …

“I think I have something special to share with the world, a positive example,” she said.  “I want to be happy myself and if that can resonate with anyone else, that would be my goal.”

If you missed Haley’s audition, here it is.
