Kanard Thomas of The Voice Season 28

Kanard Thomas of The Voice Season 28

His audition: Kanard Thomas, 35, of Columbus, Ga., performed “Whip Appeal” by Babyface. Kanard showed off really nice range. That and his smooth delivery prompted chair turns from Snoop Dogg and Niall Horan. Niall liked his Luther Vandross vibe. Snoop liked the way he made the song his own and his performance skills. Kanard decided to join Team Snoop.

Here’s more about Kanard:

* Kanard is taking a second stab at The Voice after appearing on Season 16 (spring 2019)and winning the Comeback Stage, a short-lived gimmick that gave singers a second chance on the show.

* Kanard, 28 at the time of his first audition, failed to turn a chair, but was selected for the Comeback Stage, launching a series of YouTube-based performances with Bebe Rexha as mentor and decision maker.

* Showing impressive range and vocal control — especially on covers of “Redbone” and “All My Life” — Kanard won all four rounds, earning the right to perform in the live playoffs. He was eliminated at that point.

* He’s released four singles since and now has five on streaming sites. His latest release was “I Know” from 2024.

* In his Spotify bio, Kanard says he grew up in Jacksonville, Fla., and began his singing career in Columbus, Ga., inspired by the likes of Al Green, Marvin Gaye and Usher.

* He’s performed as a background singer with Monica Denise and Brittany Howard.

* Kannard has also spent considerable time singing on cruise lines as front man for the BB King Live All-Star Band.

* Pre-Voice, Kanard already has nearly 1,000 followers on TikTok. Check out his silky smooth vocals on the cover below.
