Shan Scott of The Voice Season 28

Shan Scott of The Voice Season 28

Her audition: Shan Scott, 28, of New York, performed “Wish I Knew You” by The Revivalists. Shan showed off a great rasp from the first note. Season 28 is filled with great female singer-songwriters. Wow, it took until the last second for Reba McEntire to turn. I have no idea why chairs didn’t turn earlier. Reba said she fell in love with Shan’s voice. Michael Buble and Niall Horan said they would have turned had Reba done so earlier. Shan automatically became Team Reba.

Here’s more about Shan:

* She’s an alternative pop artist from Highland Falls, N.Y. who’s been based in Nashville for several years. And she has already released music, both as Shan Scott and Jenny Rae.

* She has three singles on streaming sites as Shan Scott — “Amsterdam” and “Are You Happy?” from last year and “Guiding Light,” a collaboration with producer newhaven that dropped in August.

* Shan describes the latter this way: “I wanted this song to feel like a steady hand reaching through the dark. ‘Guiding Light’ is about remembering that even in the hardest seasons, love has a way of leading us back home.”

* In a 2023 interview with Nashville Voyager, Shan says she taught herself to play guitar in fourth grade, eventually took piano lessons and participated in musicals and church choir.

* She moved to Nashville fresh out of high school, an experience she described as “fun and thrilling, but terrifying at times.”

* She also told the site she’s struggled with grief and addiction. Shan celebrates her sobriety in a July social media post.

* In her Spotify bio, Shan says her goal is to create “music that uplifts and heals, creating a safe space where people from all walks of life can come together and be their truest selves.”

* Pre-Voice, Shan has nearly 1,000 followers and more than 10,000 likes on her TikTok.
