That theme did the trick. After a season marked by mediocrity, the American Idol Top 8 came into their own Wednesday night when they had a chance to repeat the songs that earned them golden tickets to Hollywood.
If the results have been mixed on Season 13 — and they certainly have — don’t blame the themes. American Idol producers have certainly fulfilled their promise to freshen up song choices for the contestants this year.
Only one of the songs from Tuesday’s episode of The Voice cracked the Top 200 on iTunes. Sisaundra Lewis accomplished the feat with the oft-done “It’s a Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World.”
We saw four more battle round matches on The Voice Tuesday night. Well, actually, we saw three battle rounds and a snippet of the fourth.
Wondering how last night’s songs from The Voice did on iTunes? Honestly, Monday’s episode was so strong, I’m surprised they didn’t do a little better.
As I wrote late night, I wasn’t thrilled with the idea of a second round of battles on The Voice. I’d rather hear the singers go solo, because that’s how we’re going to be judging them once the fan voting starts.
This should be the best week yet for the Season 13 finalists on American Idol. They’ll get to sing a song with which they’re familiar. They’ll get to sing a song with which they’ve already enjoyed success.
With spots in the live playoffs on the line, the singers from The Voice put on perhaps the best show yet Monday night. Six earned spots in those playoffs via battle round wins.
Eight contestants per team remain on The Voice. And over the course of the next couple of nights, each will engage in another round of battles. By the time it all ends, only five contestants per team will remain, including a newly stolen singer.
Round two of the battles begins tonight on The Voice. That’s right, round two, for the first time ever.
