Looks like Lady Gaga is determined to steal the scene at the 2011 Grammy Awards.
If you’re tuned in to E!’s pre-Grammy shows, you will know that …
Gaga impersonators set a Guinness world record for most gathered in one spot at one time at about 6 p.m. on E!
Gaga’s new single, “Born This Way,” has set an iTunes record for fastest-selling single of all time.
And it looks like Gaga is being carried, pharaoh-style, toward the red carpet, hidden inside a silver egg-shaped shell of some sort.
Oh, boy.
For Idol fans, all eyes will be focused on three individuals tonight: Fantasia, Carrie Underwood and Adam Lambert. If one of them wins, a former Idol contestant will have won a Grammy for six straight years. For a look at the past winners, go here.
Meanwhile, Gaga has arrived on the red carpet. But, apparently, we’re not going to see what she’s wearing inside her egg until her performance. Why? Because she’s incubating, of course.
Ryan Seacrest proclaims “that’s the way to work the red carpet.” Hmm, if everyone arrived in an egg …
Ryan Seacrest just interviewed Jennifer Hudson on the red carpet. If you haven’t heard, Jennifer will be part of a quintet — which also includes Christina Aguilera — singing a medley of Aretha Franklin songs to kick off tonight’s ceremony.
Jennifer says she’s “honored” to be chosen to participate in the tribute. “I grew up listening to her songs and singing her songs,” she says. “My whole family sings. She’s like our Idol.”
Adam Lambert also showed up on the red carpet to talk to Ryan. He talks about his second album, admitting he’s not quite sure what it will sound like, but wants it to be genuine, with the voice “front and center.”
Of the sound he’s looking for: “It might be less rhinestones, more leather. At least that’s what I’m shooting for,” Adam says.
He also says he’s honored to be nominated in the same category as Michael Jackson, that being best male pop vocal.
And the Grammys are under way, with Jennifer Hudson participating in that aforementioned tribute to Aretha.
The first award during the live telecast goes to Train for best pop group or duo.
And, now, Lady Gaga is hatching, to perform her new single “Born This Way.” I’ll post photos of the performance as soon as they’re available.
Meanwhile, exciting news in from the early Grammys.
Fantasia won for best female R&B vocal performance for her single, “Bittersweet.”
Adam Lambert was not as fortunate. The best male pop vocal performance Grammy went to Bruno Mars for “Just the Way You Are.”
And now we learn the fate of Carrie Underwood’s Grammy hopes. The Grammy for best female country vocal performance goes to Miranda Lambert for “The House that Built Me.”
Hmm, the other categories in which Fantasia was nominated weren’t announced during the show, so let’s go looking for the results.
Best R&B album went to John Legend and The Roots for “Wake Up.” Fantasia had been nominated for “Back to Me.”
And best R&B song — really a songwriters’ award — went to John Legend and The Roots for “Shine.” Fantasia’s “Bittersweet” was also nominated.
Oh, well, it only takes one Grammy to extend the Idol streak, and it’s been extended to six years, thanks to Fantasia’s first-ever Grammy.
