It’s a bit too early to tell, but fans might not be loving The Voice’s new Battle of the champions format.

This much is clear. American Idol is crushing The Voice now that the shows are going head to head on Monday nights.

American Idol recorded a 0.42 rating among 19-49 year-olds and an overall viewership of 5.19 million for its 2nd Hollywood Week episode.

That’s a bit of a drop from the 0.45 rating and 5.52 million viewers the week before.

But it’s far, far better than The Voice in its second week under its new three-coach, scaled down, no-fan-voting format.

The NBC show recorded a 0.28 rating this week among 19-49 year-olds and a total viewership of 3.32 million.

That’s down from a 0.31 rating and an audience of 3.84 million the week before, a whopping 13 percent drop in total audience.

Year over year, The Voice audience has dropped by 44 percent, from 5.93 million for the second blind audition episode of Season 27 last spring to the 3.32 million for this year’s second audition.

Prediction: The worst is yet to come for The Voice. Fan voting starts soon on American Idol. Fans of The Voice won’t get to vote at all in Season 29.
