Bay Simpson of The Voice Season 29

Bay Simpson is among the artists who auditioned for Season 29 of The Voice.

The Voice will kick off Season 29 with a new format and just three coaches — Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levin and John Legend — on Feb. 23.

Here’s more about Bay:

* He’s a rock singer-songwriter in his mid-20s from the Muscle Shoals area of Alabama. He’s now based in Nashville.

* And Bay has lots of music you can check out now, both as a solo artist and as front man for the country-rock band Outlaw Apostles.

* He just released an impressive cover of CCR’s “Fortunate Son” in honor of his grandfather, Don Simpson, who served three tours in Vietnam with the U.S. Navy and was a helicopter gunner and listened to songs like “Fortunate Son” while flying into battle.

* In terms of original music, he has a January single out called “Where Do I Go from Her” and released a four-song EP called “Time Waster” in May. The latter is the result of studio time in which he says he “rocked out on 4 of my favorite songs I’ve ever written.” Check out a snippet of the very catchy “Where Do I Go from Her” below.

* Speaking of songwriting, according to his web bio, Bay was just 20 when Kid Rock decided to record and release “Never Enough,” one of Bay’s songs.

* As for the Outlaw Apostles, they were originally formed as a country-rock cover band to play around the Florence, Ala. area.

* But they wound up recording original music as well, including five singles and a self-titled EP between 2022 and 2024. They also had the opportunity to open for country stars Dwight Yoakam and Jamey Johnson.

* Bay grew up in a musical family. Both of his parents performed music around the Florence, Ala. area. His stepbrother is also a musician.

* But Bay told The Flor-ALA that he accepted a golf scholarship to a college in Arkansas before realizing music was his true calling and transferring to The University of North Alabama.

* Bay told the site family support has helped out in another way as well. “Music is a really tough thing, and I think a lot of people get scared away, and they can’t tough it out,” he said. “But my family — I’ve seen all these people chase their dream, and that’s a good example to see. I don’t really have any fear of failure, because I’ve seen people go after it their whole life and make it work.”
