Allison Iraheta and Jive Records have parted ways, according to this story by Michael Slezak at EW.com.
It’s hardly a shocking development.
Let’s face it, Allison’s “Just Like You” debut didn’t tear up the charts. It entered the Billboard 200 at number 35 and was gone five weeks later.
In contrast, season eight winner Kris Allen’s debut album stayed on the Billboard 200 for four months.
In contrast, season eight runner-up Adam Lambert’s debut is still in the Billboard 200, 40 weeks after its release.
None of Allison’s singles caught on either, though I blame that in part from the decision to make “Friday I’ll Be Over You” the lead single. The song and video screamed “this is for the teen set only.”
In truth, Allison’s followup singles — “Scars” and “Don’t Waste the Pretty” — should have appealed to pop-rock music lovers of all ages.
If you haven’t checked out her album, please do. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. “Holiday” is another prize track.
Allison is still with 19 Recordings and continues as part of the Glam Nation Tour with Adam. Which should bring her decent exposure since the tour is selling out all over the place.
Anyway, here’s hoping someone will release a “Just Like You” followup in the not-too-distant future.
Among albums released so far by the season eight cast, Allison’s album is a rare gem.

Yep, Jive screwed up royally when they chose to release “Friday I’ll Be Over U” as Allison’s first single. BIG MISTAKE! Ironically, Allison’s debut album is actually very very good. There are atleast 7 or 8 other songs on that album that are far better than her failed first released single & it is my opinion that any of those 7 or 8 other songs should have been her first single release. Unfortunately, I think Jive & Allison’s management has probably sabotaged Allison’s career by their poor decisions. None of it Allison’s fault really. Hopefully Allison will rebound because her talent is undeniable & she deserves a far better fate.
