Carrie Underwood entered Wednesday’s CMT Music Awards with five nominations, more than any other artist.
She wound up winning just twice.
But near the end of the show, she was on stage accepting the biggest honor of the night — Video of the Year for “Good Girl.”
The song is the first single off her fourth album, “Blown Away,” and she had performed it earlier in the evening.
But she’d also just missed out on winning with “Good Girl” for Female Video of the Year. That award went to Miranda Lambert for “Over You.”
The fan-voted honor marks the third time Carrie has won Video of the Year at the CMTs. She previously won for “Before He Cheats” in 2007 and “Cowboy Casanova” in 2010.
This year, 10 songs were initially nominated for Video of the Year. Early in Wednesday’s awards show, the field was narrowed to five, “Good Girl” and Tody Keith’s “Red Solo Cup,” Blake Shelton’s “God Gave Me You,” Jason Aldean’s “Dirt Road Anthem” and “Safe and Sound” by Taylor Swift and the Civil Wars.
Carrie’s other win came with the night’s very first presentation. She and Brad Paisley took honors for Collaborative Video of the Year for their duet “Remind Me.”
Brad, always the jokester, thanked Carrie for being the “eye candy” in the video.
“Otherwise, it’s just a dork walking through the desert,” he said.
As for Carrie, she pointed out that her husband, Mike Fisher, hugged Brad before her when the award was announced.
The other Idol winner on Wednesday was Scotty McCreery, who won Breakthrough Video of the Year honors for “The Trouble with Girls.” He also performed “Water Tower Town” during the show.
Idol nominees who failed to win included Lauren Alaina, nominated for Breakthrough Video of the Year for “Georgia Peaches,” and Kellie Pickelr, nominated for Female Video of the Year for “Tough.”
Carrie and Steven Tyler were nominated for CMT Performance of the Year for a duet on “Crossroads.” That award went to Jason Aldean for a performance of “Tattoos on This Town.”
