On The Voice, you figure every artist with a country bent is going to wind up on Team Blake.

Not so, at least in the case of Emily Earle, who sang “Ring of Fire” in her audition and wound up on Team Cee Lo.

We saw just a bit of Emily during the fifth blind audition episode.

She’s from Colorado Springs, attended Berklee College in Boston, made her living singing in subways for a while in New York and now lives in Nashville.

Oh, and in addition to working on her songwriting there, she’s a nanny for her uncle, Steve Earle, a singer-songwriter and producer with three Grammys for Best Folk Album of the Year to his credit.

Emily describes her music as country/pop and has been writing poetry since she was young and learned to play guitar in high school, according to her Facebook bio and website.

She’s also got a sense of humor, writing that “by the end of high school, this guitar playing and poetry writing had evolved into bad songwriting.” Hence, Berklee.

And apparently she gained enough confidence in her songwriting to release a four-track EP in April 2011. The songs, one of which is embedded below, appear to still be available.

As for her audition, Emily told Christina Milian she didn’t think is was her best because of nervousness.

But Cee Lo called it “a great job” and “pretty brave” tackling a Johnny Cash classic.
