Idols on the Music Chart

Music charts: Thank Kelly Clarkson for a bright spot

0

Looking for bright spots on the Billboard music charts for the Idols this week.

They’re few and far between, but the brightest has to be that duet Kelly Clarkson recorded with Jason Aldean last year.

“Don’t You Want to Stay” has climbed all the way to number 11 on the country singles chart and is the highest ranking Idol single on the Hot 100 at number 39.

As for the lack of highlights on the music charts, Kelly will likely come to Idol’s rescue sometime later this year.

She recently posted a comment on her Facebook page that her new album, tentatively titled May, could come out in March.

I doubt it will be that soon since you’d think a release date for a new Kelly album would be announced months in advance. But it certainly means we should be getting new music from Kelly in 2011.

Meanwhile, all the Hollywood-bound contestants on season 10 of Idol are being asked about their favorite Idol moment.

It is absolutely amazing how many of them point back to Kelly Clarkson’s victory in season one as a source of inspiration, even contestants who are now only 15 or 16 years old and must have been 6 or 7 at the time.

Other chart highlights for this week:

* Daughtry’s “September” moves up a spot to number three on the adult contemporary chart. Standing between it and number 1: Bruno Mars’ “Just the Way You Are” and Train’s “Hey, Soul Sister.”

* Crystal Bowersox’s album drops to 68 this week, but is still the highest ranking Idol CD on the Billboard 200. Lee DeWyze’s album, on the other hand, plummets from 122 to 193 and is in danger of dropping off the chart just 11 weeks after its release.
