Yet another former Idol contestant has decided the finale would offer a wonderful opportunity to release new music.
Didi Benami, who finished 10th back in Season 9, will release her first single, “Gasoline,” on Wednesday.
It’s the lead single off an EP that will be released later this year, according to a press release from Didi’s website.
The release describes it as “a bittersweet song about letting go or hanging on.” Didi wrote it along with Justin Gray and Chris Seefried, and you can hear a snippet of it below.
Didi made a name for herself on Idol with an acoustic version of the Kara DioGuardi song “Terrified” during Hollywood. At the time, the song had just been released on Katharine McPhee’s second album.
Didi’s been tweeting about song-writing and recording sessions ever since the Season 9 summer tour ended, and the EP will include songs she’s written or co-written.
Didi has also maintained close ties to Idol, helping out as a host on The Hollywood Reporter’s weekly Idol Hangover segment, which features interviews with past contestants and commentary on the show’s most recent episode.
