Get ready for a triple dose of The Voice this week.
The live playoffs open Monday night, with members of two teams singing for a spot in the Top 12.
The members of the other two teams will perform on Tuesday, and we’ll get the results during a special one-hour The Voice, airing at 8 p.m. EST on Wednesday.
The format will be sorta the same as in the past: Two singers from each team advance on fan voting. Then each coach selects one remaining member of his or her team to make the Top 12.
The new wrinkle: Each coach gets to bring back one previously eliminated contestant. For my thoughts on who should be invited back, head here.
Meanwhile, here’s a look at the teams entering the playoffs based on the singers we know will be performing. Check back Monday at 8 p.m. for a live blog with song-by-song grades.
As usual, follow the links and you’ll find a profile blog on each singer. Head there and you can also watch all their Voice performances to date.
Team Adam: Adam cut five singers who turned four chairs and might still have the show’s strongest team. Singer-songwriter Amy Vachal and Jordan Smith have lived up to their hype. Given the way they’ve been doing on iTunes, it’s tough to think they won’t be voted into the finals. That is unless Adam brings back Andi & Alex, like he should. If Adam is forced to choose between the remaining three pictured above? Well, you know he’d love to advance country powerhouse Shelby Brown to go head-to-head with Blake. But Keith Semple and Blaine Mitchell are the show’s only rockers and both are capable of turning in an undeniable performance.
Team Blake: Blake talked about building a diverse team, but there’s an awful lot of country — four singers — on his live playoffs quintet. Barrett Baber has proven he’s ready for prime time; Morgan Frazier is the most experienced country female on the show. But Emily Ann Roberts and Zach Seabaugh might just remind Blake of success he’s had on The Voice in the past with the likes of RaeLynn and Danielle Bradbery. Ivonne Acero is the wild card: Oh, no, she sings pop and she’s been improving fast. But don’t be surprised if Blake goes all-country for the finals.
Team Gwen: Wow, this team sure looks a lot different than it did at the end of the battles, when Lyndsey Elm and Ellie Lawrence seemed like the budding stars. Gwen used her steals wisely. Viktor Kilary is the team’s most polished performer; Regina Love is its biggest voice. But fans seem to be falling in love with Korin Bukowski, and Jeffery Austin just turned in the most popular cover from Night 3 of the knockout round. Braiden Sunshine? He’s the youngest contestant on the show, yet defeated Lyndsey and Ellie in consecutive rounds.
Team Pharrell: The big question: Who will viewers advance from this team? Madi Davis has a wonderfully unique voice and delivered the third most popular song on iTunes from the knockout round. Riley Biederer lost her last two matches, but proved herself a pop force to be reckoned with anyway. Evan McKeel has been solid throughout. Mark Hood is Mr. Charisma and Darius Scott certainly impressed in the knockouts, but they’ve both had trouble cracking the iTunes Top 200 with their solo efforts. Pharrell had success with youth in Season 8; this time, Madi is the only minor left on his team. At least until he exercises that coach comeback.
