In Season 9, The Voice coaches invited four contestants back for the live playoffs.

Not one of the four made it to the finals.

The Voice used the same twist in Season 10, but the results could be different. It appears two of the singers brought back — Nick Hagelin and Dan Passino — have an excellent shot at making the Top 12.

We’ll learn who’s in that Top 12 during tonight’s results show. The top two vote-getters from each team automatically advance. Then each coach gets to save one of his or her four remaining artists so that they advance to the Top 12 as well.

Let’s take a team-by-team look at what’s likely to happen.

Team Adam: This should be the easiest, since Team Adam posted the three most successful songs on iTunes after Tuesday’s show. Shalyah Fearing led the way. No way the teen sensation doesn’t advance. The same should be true for singer-songwriter Owen Danoff. And let’s not forget Laith Al-Saaid, who turned in my absolute favorite performance Tuesday. Yep, I liked it even better than Shalyah’s cover of “Listen.” On iTunes, all three landed in the top 32 when voting closed.

Team Blake: There might be an upset here. You had to figure Mary Sarah was a lock for the finals with her massive social media following. But fellow country singers Adam Wakefield (30 on the iTunes 200) and Katie Basden (59) both topped Mary Sarah (67). If they wind up being the two singers voted into the finals by fans, will Blake save a third country singer? Of will he go with Joe Maye, who also outperformed Mary Sarah on iTunes with a solid cover of “Long Train Runnin’.”

Team Christina: This turned out to be the most solid team in the live playoffs, but I suspect Christina will go with the trio of Alisan Porter, Bryan Bautista and Nick Hagelin. Nick is the comeback artist, and his cover of Rihanna’s “Stay” was easily the best of those four performances. Christina is clearly infatuated with the notion of Bryan as a hunky &B/pop artist. And let’s face it, Alisan isn’t going to need anyone’s save to advance. She once again topped all The Voice singers on iTunes, peaking at 12 on the Top 200.

Team Pharrell: The Team Pharrell artist who wound up doing the best today on iTunes is comeback singer Dan Passino. Interesting. And it’ll be even more interesting to see what Pharrell does if for some reason Dan isn’t voted into the Top 12. I suspect Hannah Huston will make that group, one way or the other. I’m hoping young singer-songwriter Emily Keener does. Pharrell’s other three singers — Caity Peters, Moushumi and Lacy Mandigo — failed to crack the Top 200 on iTunes. But, remember, Caity is just weeks removed from a four-chair turn in the blind auditions.

Anyway, that’s what I expect to happen. Check back at 8 p.m. when I’ll be live blogging the results show.
