When Abi Carter found out she’d be auditioning in front of the American Idol judges, she wasn’t sure how she wanted to portray herself.

She ultimately came to the conclusion she was just going to be herself, she said in an interview during her hometown visit earlier this week.

In other words, “just a girl and her piano,” the way Abi describes herself on Instagram.

So she entered the audition room, slipped behind the piano and delivered a heartfelt rendition of “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish.

The Idol judges rewarded her with a standing ovation. Katy hugged her. Luke whispered that she might be the winner of American Idol Season 22.

And a week later, the judges upgraded Abi’s golden ticket to a platinum ticket.

Sunday night, Abi will try to become the first platinum ticket recipient to nab the Idol crown in a three-hour season finale with fellow finalists Will Moseley and Jack Blocker.
