American Idol Season 15

A look back at Trent Harmon’s performances on American Idol

One of my favorite quotes from this year’s American Idol auditions came from Trent Harmon.

The intro clip for the 25-year-old took us to his parents’ 400-acre farm in Mississippi. A farm with 300 to 350 head of cattle. And a restaurant called The Longhorn where Trent helped out.

“In order to do anything in music, you need to leave the farm,” Trent told Idol. “You can sing to cows all you want. And I’ve been doing it for a long time. But they don’t clap. They don’t care. They don’t buy albums.”

Given his farming background, Trent caught the Idol judges a bit off guard when he auditioned not with a country song, but with Allan Stone’s “Unaware.” His smooth R&B delivery impressed the Idol judges, earning him a unanimous golden ticket to Hollywood.

More recently, he’s been impressing with a late surge that has landed him in the Top 3 on Season 15, and in a position to compete for the final American Idol crown.

Here’s a look back at Trent’s performances since the finals began, along with the Idol Chatter grade for each.

Top 3 — “Tennessee Whiskey” (hometown dedication) — B+

Top 3 — “Drink You Away” (Scott Borchetta’s pick) — C+
