A new holiday cover from former Idol finalist David Archuleta

Archuleta has released a cover of “The Prayer” with fellow vocalist Nathan Pacheco.

And you might say the Christmas song is being very well received.

This morning, a day after its release, the song was number three on iTunes Holiday songs chart.

“Christmas is always a time that gets me to constantly look upward,” David wrote on Facebook. “Recording this song and video with Nathan Pacheco has been a special way to remember where to keep our perspective as we draw closer to The One who watches us from above.”

Yep, that’s the accompanying video embedded above. It’s part of “A Savior is Born” Christmas initiative by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’.

And as of Friday morning, it had been viewed more than 179,000 times. Listen and I think you’ll understand why.

This response from fans has been overwhelmingly positive.

A sampling from David’s Facebook page

Karli Newey: “This is absolutely beautiful. Well done David and Nathan! Your voices sound so good together. This puts me in the Christmas spirit and helps me remember the true meaning of Christmas.”

Jaime Neely Word: “It’s breathtaking! The blend of yalls voices together is truly amazing. With everything goin on in the world today, it is so very important for us to take time out & really focus on the True meaning of Christmas!!”

Cheryl Lynne Shaffer: “I have lost count of how many times I have watched this video since last night! The more I listen to it, the better it gets. If that is even possible! Many thanks goes out to you and Nathan!”

Gwen Sharkey Porea: “Thank you David and Nathan, this is what our world needs to hear more of. You both are such blessings and you share goodness from your hearts. This song is so beautiful.”

David, of course, finished second on Season 7 of American Idol. Earlier this year, he also had a duet on Season 7 colleague Brooke White’s “Never Grow Up” album.
