Blake Lewis, New Idol Music

A new single, times 10, from Blake Lewis

Blake Lewis recently released a new single, “Til We See the Sun.”

But this being Blake, the season six runner-up on Idol, we all know it can’t be that simple.

There are, in fact, 10 versions of “Til We See the Sun” available on iTunes, including remixes, radio edits, etc., etc., including one that runs more than 8 minutes.

You can listen to three versions of the song on Blake’s website.

Meanwhile, on that redesigned website, Blake writes that he’s busy working on his third album, and that he’s taking a different approach to this CD.

“I’ve been writing a ton on piano and guitar, taking more of a songwriter’s stance on this music,” he says. “I’ve been taking my time as a writer and really focusing on my melodic sensibility for every song.”

He’s busy with other projects as well. For instance, he did all the voices on a video game that will be released in December (he says he’s not at liberty to divulge the name yet).

He’s even thinking of starting an Idol series at his new home in California, “where I would bring former American Idol alumni over and do some live covers or posting some creative versions of their own songs. Just an idea for now.”

But, hey, sounds like a good one, right?

Blake’s last CD was “Heartbreak on Vinyl” (Oct. 2009). It was a bit hit-and-miss, but some of the tracks (“Sad Song,” “Love or Torture” and “Rhythm of the Heart”) were among my absolute favorites from Idols that year.

Here’s one of the versions of “Til We See the Sun” and a link to Blake’s redesigned website.
