Last week I wrote that iTunes rankings are usually an indicator of who will be in danger come results time.

Usually, but not always. And certainly not on Tuesday night.

Ali Caldwell escaped the bottom two even though she was the only member of the Top 11 not to crack the Top 200 on the iTunes singles chart.

Heck, between a lame song choice (Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5”) and being forced to perform first, it almost appeared the show was trying to sabotage the Season 11 R&B contestant most ready for prime time.

Also escaping the bottom two was Christian Cuevas, who cracked the iTunes singles chart, but ranked 10th, more than 30 spots behind his nearest competitor.

The left Darby Walker and Aaron Gibson in need of a Twitter save to advance to the Top 10.

And for the second straight week, Aaron’s fans rallied to save him.

That means out Top 10 for Season 11 includes:

Team Adam: Billy Gilman, Brendan Fletcher, Josh Gallagher

Team Alicia: We McDonald, Christian Cuevas

Team Blake: Austin Allsup, Sundance Head, Courtney Harrell

Team Miley: Ali Caldwell, Aaron Gibson

Save-Me performances

Darby Walker, “Your Song” by Elton John — Vocally, this was probably my favorite Darby performance since the live shows started. And, this time, there was no outlandish outfit to distract from the music. As I wrote in this week’s rankings, I still think I’ll prefer Darby originals to Darby covers. Grade: B–

Aaron Gibson, “Budapest” by George Ezra — Aaron had to be a little disappointed to land in the bottom two for the second straight week after doing so well on iTunes (fourth among the Top 11), but he responded with a strong performance on a song choice that was a nice match for his raspy vocals. Grade: B
