First, the single.
The song is called “Comfortably Numb,” and it’s not a Pink Floyd cover, folks.
Abi describes it this way: “I wrote this when I realized I was in a relationship with someone who wasn’t my soulmate no matter how hard I tried to convince myself that they were.
“A truly awful realization tbh, but don’t lie to me and say you haven’t been there too.”
The song follows “It’s All Love,” “Peppermint Sky” and “People Need Drugs” as the fourth that Abi has released this year independent of American Idol.
It’s an impressive collection, and “It’s All Love” and “Peppermint Sky” have both surpassed 250,000 streams on Spotify.
“Some People Need Drugs”lags far behind. Released mid-September, it’s a condemnation of abusive relationships and, in my mind, Abi’s most personal and powerful single yet. You can check out the music video below.
Now, the album!
On social media, Abi writes that she made a bucket list back in 2020, out of “sheer and complete boredom during quarantine.”
The first goal on that list: Make an album of her music.
Well, winning Idol sure helped. On Nov. 15, she’ll released “Ghosts in the Backyard.”
“This album is both a time stamp and a milestone for me, exploring empty relationships, heavy nostalgia, and every up and down that led me to the incredible journey of making music for you,” Abi writes.
Given the great original music Abi’s already released this year, I for one, can’t wait.

The last winner of “American Idol” who went on to a successful career was Phillip Phillips in Season 11.
He later successfully sued 19E to get out of his contract.
