Hmm, ABC might have been just a little miffed over the way Adam Lambert got “carried away” during his now infamous performance on the AMAs.
Less than an hour ago (about 8:10 p.m. Wednesday), Adam alerted fans via Twitter that ABC has canceled his scheduled performances on Jimmy Kimmel Live and New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.
Adam followed the announcement with a frowny face, then added: “Don’t blame them. It’s the FCC heat.”
And later: “It’ll all blow over. Let’s focus on being positive.”
After all, Adam adds that he’s still going to appear on NBC’s Jay Leno Show (no date for that listed) and that he’s looking for a new New Year’s gig.
And his Web site indicates he’ll be on the Late Show with Conan O’Brien, also on NBC, on Dec. 14.
Of course, ABC had already yanked one TV appearance out from under Adam.
He was scheduled to appear on Good Morning America last Tuesday, two days after the AMAs, the same day his album hit stores.
When that appearance was canceled, he wound up on CBS’ The Early Show instead, talking about his AMA performance on ABC.
During his interview with Ellen DeGeneres earlier this week, Adam admitted ABC wasn’t too thrilled with the way his show-closing number on the AMAs went.
“ABC was a little bit mad at me,” he said. “I don’t blame them. I got carried away. It was stuff I did not do in the rehearsals, so they were probably a little bit taken aback. They gave me a great opportunity to close the AMAs, and I would never want to smack that gift horse in the mouth.
“They were taking a big leap of faith having me do that and, unfortunately, it didn’t work out as we all thought it would.” Here’s a link to the video of that interview.
Meanwhile, in another Tweet, Adam thanks fans for helping his album land at number three in its debut week.
Billboard will post its new music charts Thursday. As soon as they’re posted, I’ll blog about where Adam and fellow Idol finalist Kris Allen wound up on the Billboard 200 album chart.
