A little more than a year ago, Adam Lambert was in the ensemble of “Wicked,” feeling rather “bored.”
He wanted something to happen to jumpstart his career. He wanted something more. He asked the “universe” for help.
“The universe came through in a big way,” he said.
So big, Adam found himself talking about his life before and after American Idol on Oprah Tuesday afternoon.
If you missed the show, here’s a quick look at what you missed.
Oh, and Adam also performed his latest single, “Whataya Want From Me.” To appreciate that, you’ll probably have to head to Oprah’s Web site a little later.
* Adam really didn’t expect to do well on American Idol, because “I’m a little left of center” and had a threatrical background, the type of background Idol hasn’t typically embraced.
* One of the benefits of his sudden stardom is that he’s “financially stable and doing what I love.” Making a career in music and theater was always a struggle before, he told Oprah.
* His New Year’s resolution was to “enjoy the moment” because he realizes stardom can be fleeting. There are, he noted, winners of the show the public hears little about these days.
* He thinks the audience and contestants will miss Simon Cowell’s honest critiques. But the show will go on, Adam says, because viewers tune in for the contestants.
And Adam said Paula’s contribution to the show was just as important, as positive reinforcement for the show’s contestants.
* And, asked about his performance at the American Music Awards, he told Oprah he “would do it again.” He’d just make sure he rehearsed the controversial moves ahead of time, so the network wasn’t surprised.
“The lyrics to that song (‘For Your Entertainment’) are a risky and risque, so I got risky and risque.”
Oprah didn’t ask the obvious followup question: What Adam would have done if the network saw the rehearsal and nixed the kissing and grabbing?
