After Idol visit, James Durbin back on the music charts

The selling power of American Idol worked again this week on the music charts.

James Durbin, fourth-place finisher in Season 10, returned to Idol last week to perform his new single, “Higher Than Heaven.”

The song is on James’ debut album, “Memories of a Beautiful Disaster,” which was released last November.

The album debuted at number 36 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on that chart for seven weeks, disappearing in mid-January.

This week, guess what?

It’s back on the chart, after a three-month absence. At number 72, no less.

Here’s hoping last night’s Idol performance works similar wonders for Kris Allen’s new single.

Elsewhere on the music charts this week:

* With the release of her new album less than two weeks away (May 1), Carrie Underwood holds steady at number 8 on the country singles chart with “Good Girl.”

* Kelly Clarkson remains atop the adult pop chart with “Stronger” and moved up one spot on the adult contemporary chart to a new peak of number 7.

* Four weeks after its release, Casey James’ debut album is still number 24 on the country chart. The lead single, “Let’s Don’t Call It a Night,” just can’t quite crack the top 20. It’s now 22 on the country singles chart, down a spot from last week.

Here’s the complete chart rundown.
