The Voice soundly defeated American Idol in the TV ratings for the second straight week Monday night.

And winter is coming, which should send the shivers down the spines of the good folks at ABC.

The Voice and Idol went head to head for the first time this year last Monday. The Voice scored a 1.7 rating among 19-49 year olds and 9.73 million viewers. Idol had its lowest rating ever, 1.1. with 6.05 million viewers.

The gap narrowed somewhat this week. And that’s understandable.

Idol’s final Hollywood episode was, quite frankly, a whole lot more entertaining than a bloated battle round episode of The Voice is ever likely to be.

This time around, The Voice scored a 1.6 and drew an estimated 8.93 million fans. Idol ticked up to 1.2 and 6.35 million viewers.

Idol will air for three more Mondays. Then it’s back to Sundays only, with live voting, for Idol’s second season on ABC.

To this point, Idol has won the Sunday night ratings battle every week since it premiered,

But like I said, winter is coming, Game of Thrones style, beginning April 14.

From that Sunday on, every Idol episode will butt heads with the final season of the HBO smash during the 9 to 10 p.m. hour.

Which would you watch? Idol, where you’ll get a minute of commercial for every minute of singing? Or GOT, where you’ll learn the fate of Jon Snow, Khaleesi, et al in a commercial free setting.

My hunch: With live voting even for this year’s finale, American Idol’s Season 17 champ will be chosen by a ridiculously small pool of die-hard fans.

Do you think this season of “Idol” will be its last?

Who knows? I actually thought the Hollywood Week episodes — while far from perfect — were pretty entertaining. Then there’s The Voice, which keeps tinkering with its format to stay fresh and keeps making things worse.

“The Voice” isn’t doing well in the ratings, either.

It seems that most viewers watch it only for the coaches.

The format is repeatedly tinkered with to make it even more manipulated.

There’s a bad twist coming on “Idol” soon, too.

A bad twist in addition to the fact that there won’t be a Monday night season finale?

            Yes.

However, I’ve gotten a vibe that this site isn’t for spoilers.

On separate note, I will mention that Seacrest got sick and missed a pivotal show.

A divisive entertainment personality filled in for him.
