Nick Jonas will take a turn mentoring the American Idol Top 7 this week as they prepare to tackle two themes Sunday night.

Each contestant will sing one song from the Prince catalog and one song from the year they were born.

Some of the song choices are intriguing. Some are downright groan worthy.

I mean, Caleb Lee Hutchinson will sing “Amazed.” Gabby Barrett will sing “I Hope You Dance.”

How many dozen times have we already heard those songs on a singing show?

On the other hand, Jurnee is going to sing Prince’s “Kiss,” which I’m really looking forward to. And Catie Turner will tackle “Manic Monday” and “Oops, I Did It Again.”

That should be interesting.

Here are the artists and the songs we’ll hear Sunday night when live voting will whittle the Top 7 down to a lucky Top 5.
