Ballads be gone next week on American Idol

So, will Idol change its mind about themes again this week?

If not, we’re likely to see considerably fewer ballads Wednesday night.

At least one would hope.

The announced theme at this point:  Songs from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

That should jolt Pia Toscano and Stefano Langone out of ballad land.

And jolt Casey Abrams back to life.

Other highlights next week:

* Jeff Beck will perform with the Idols on the performance show.

* And Constantine Maroulis from Season Four will return to the Idol stage.

That’s a natural fit for rock-and-roll night since Constantine has been touring the nation with the incredibly successful “Rock of Ages.”

Of course, last week at this time, we were told contestants would be singing Songs of the 1980s.

They wound up singing Elton John tunes, of course.

Editor’s Note: Check back later today for exit interviews with Thia Megia and Naima Adedapo.
