That distinction would belong to Billy Gilman, the 28-year-old member of Team Adam who’s shooting for a second chance at stardom in the music business after scoring a string of country hits as a child.
Billy turned four chairs when he covered Adele’s “When We Were Young” in The Voice’s second night of blind auditions.
By noon the next day, he was sitting at number 18 on the iTunes singles chart. No blind audition song from Season 11 did better.
In fact, only three other singers cracked the Top 100 on that chart with their blind audition songs — Nolan Neal of Team Adam, Whitney and Shannon of Team Alicia and Blaine Long of Team Blake.
Below is a look at how the Season 11 artists ranked on iTunes during the blind auditions. Forty of the 48 Season 11 cast members cracked a genre chart; four of those who didn’t were singers who had their blind auditions montaged, meaning viewers got to see just the tiniest snippet of the performance.
Out of fairness, all the rankings below were taken at noon the day after the blind audition aired because that’s when voting typically ends following a live show of The Voice. Some songs might have ultimately climbed higher on the chart.
And keep in mind that some genre charts are more difficult to scale than others, with pop and country being two of the most competitive.
