Bo Bice ‘amazed’ to be Broadway bound

1

As I catch up on Idol news I missed while writing about The Voice and The X Factor … here’s a match I never thought we’d see.

Bo Bice is heading to Broadway.

Bo Bice, shown at an American Idol finale, will perform on Broadway in Pump Boys and Dinettes. (FOX Photo)The Season 4 runner-up has snagged the lead role in “Pump Boys and Dinettes.”

It’s actually a revival of a 1981 show that hit Broadway in 1982 and wound up running for more than 16 months.

And it’s a musical tribute to rural American life centered around a roadside restaurant and gas station on a North Carolina highway.

The role won’t be too big of a stretch for Bo, who says it calls for him to play guitar and sing.

But at the same time, in an interview with the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Bo admits “I was amazed they asked me to do it.”

Since he has no experience in theater, he says he’ll be relying on producers to “make me look good.” Check out the interview here.

The show will open April 8 at New York’s Circle in the Square Theater with preview performances set to start March 19

Bo has released three albums since Idol, including 2010’s excellent “3.”
