Asking The Voice contestants who they think will win the show is typically an exercise in futility.

The answers are almost always as diplomatic as possible, with the interviewee praising everyone’s talent and giving everyone an even shot at winning.

When asked the question during a Wednesday conference call with the media, Braiden Sunshine was very diplomatic.

But the youngest contestant at age 15 also offered his honest opinion when asked about Jordan Smith’s chances of winning next week.

“He just such an amazing vocalist and such a genuinely nice human being — and not to say anybody else isn’t — just his personality and his vocals and the kind of person he is, though, I would be very surprised if he wasn’t going home with a big hunk of metal that said The Voice on it,” Braiden said.

“But it’s still a competition,” he added quickly. “Whoever the country wants to win will take the cake. But I’d be personally surprised if he didn’t take it.”

As for himself, Braiden said he’s “extremely excited for the future.”

And why not?

He went from turning two chairs in the blind audition to making the Top 9, not bowing out of the competition until Tuesday night when Jordan, Barrett Baber, Emily Ann Roberts and Jeffery Austin were revealed as Season 9’s finalists.
