It’s called “Cross My Mind,” came out Friday and was co-written with and produced by Derrick Furhmann.
In an interview with iHollywoodTV, Britton calls it about “lost love and the inability to let go.”
He says he thought he was writing the song about a person, but the song can also apply to a place.
And for him, the song most often relates to his small hometown of Sanford, N.C., which he left in 2019 to take us permanent residence in L.A.
Now 20, Britton was 18 when he auditioned for The Voice, calls the show a “big blessing” and says he’s still in touch with coach Alicia Keys.
As for the gap between the show and the debut single … well, there’s a story there as well.
Britton says he wrote and recorded “a big rock and roll record.”
“Then, one day, it was just a decision. It was like, ‘Man, I think I should do this, but I should try to make it (his music) a little more accessible, a little more mainstream, a little more commercial.
“To try to grab people’s attention by making (the music) familiar enough to drag them under the surface and give them something deeper.”
Here’s “Cross My Mind.”
