Turns out Season 13 American Idol winner Caleb Johnson had some pretty big news to share on the red carpet before Thursday’s finale.

He’ll be heading out with Kiss as the opening act on their Freedom to Rock tour this summer.

Caleb will be the opener when the tour begins on July 7 in Boise, Idaho, and he’ll continue in that role through 19 stops in the West and Midwest.

Kiss will be making three stops in Pennsylvania later in the tour — Erie (Aug. 27), State College (Aug. 30) and Allentown (Sept. 1) — but by that time The Dead Daisies will have taken over as the opening act. Head here for all the tour information.

Caleb, you’ll remember, is also working on an EP to be released later this year.

He released the gospel-tinged rocker “Holding On” earlier this year and just dropped a second track, “Hanging with the Band” that’s available from iTunes.

You can find out more about the EP and pick up lots of Caleb Johnson related items on his Pledge Music page.

And I’ll embed audio of that new song when it becomes available.
