Can American Idol make it five in a row?
As in five years in which past contestants have walked away with at least one Grammy Award?
Kelly Clarkson started the streak in 2005; Carrie Underwood has extended it the last three years.
And they’ll both be up for honors again Sunday night in Los Angeles at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards (8 p.m. CBS).
But keeping the streak going won’t be easy.
Kelly’s up against the Black Eyed Peas and their hit album, “The E.N.D.” in the Best Pop Vocal Album category.
Carrie’s up against Miss Win Everything Recently — aka Taylor Swift — in the Best Female Country Vocal Performance category.
But the Idol string of wins could also be extended by Mandisa (Best Pop Contemporary Gospel Album) or Ruben Studdard and Trenyce (Best Musical Show Album).
Check back Sunday night. I’ll be blogging live and posting photos of non-Idols and Idols as soon as The Associated Press starts moving pics from the red carpet.
Here’s a complete rundown of this year’s Idol nominees, as well as a list of past Grammys won by Idols.
