Idols at awards shows

Carrie, Kelly and Jordin at the Billboard Music Awards

Three of the four females ever to win the American Idol title took the stage at the Billboard Music Awards Sunday night.

Kelly Clarkson looked lovely in red singing her new single, “Dark Side.”

Carrie Underwood had the wind machines cranked up full gear again as she performed the title track off her new “Blown Away” album.

And Jordin Sparks turned in a stirring tribute to Whitney Houston with a rendition of “I Will Always Love You.”

Three Idols were also up for awards during Sunday night’s show, including Scotty McCreery, Idol’s Season 10 winner, as Best New Artist.

But that honor went to rapper Wiz Khalifa.

Scotty also missed out on the country album of the year honors. That award went to Jason Aldean for “My Kinda Party.” But, hey, doesn’t Kelly get at least a piece of the trophy for that brilliant “Don’t You Want to Stay” duet.

The other Idol nominees didn’t fare any better.

Jennifer Hudson, nominated for best R&B album for “I Remember Me,” lost to Beyonce’s “4.”

And Mandisa, from Idol Season 5, was nominated for Best Christian Song for “Stronger.”  That honor went to Laura Story for “Blessings.”

The big winner of the night was Adele, naturally, with 12 awards. For a complete list of winners, go here.
