Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood put American Idol on the Grammy map.
And both were back in the spotlight Sunday at the 55th annual awards ceremony.
Carrie took the stage to sing a medley of her two most recent hits, “Blown Away” and “Two Black Cadillacs.”
By that time, she’d already snagged her sixth Grammy award for best country vocal performance for “Blown Away,” beating out Dierks Bentley, Ronnie Dunn, Hunter Hayes and Eric Church for the honor.
“Blown Away” also won the Grammy for country song of the year. That’s a songwriters’ award that went to Josh Kear, Chris Tompkins.
Kelly was nominated for three Grammys Sunday and won once, for best pop album of the year with “Stronger.” It marked her third Grammy, but her first since 2006.
She was also nominated for best pop vocal performance (Adele won for “Set Fire to the Rain) and record of the year (Goyte and Kimbra won for “Somebody That I Used to Know.”)
Shortly after accepting her award, Kelly took the stage to perform a tribute to Patti Page and Carole King.
