Carrie Underwood is just two spots away from having her ninth number one country single.
“Temporary Home” moved up from number five to number three on Billboard’s country singles chart this week.
The only obstacles between her and the number one position, current chart-topper “Hillbilly Bone” by Blake Shelton and “A Little More Country Than That” by Easton Corbin.
“Temporary Home” is number 44 on the Hot 100, a four-spot advance.
Carrie’s first single from her “Play On” album, “Cowboy Casanova,” made it to number one. That album also debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.
Elsewhere on the music charts this week:
Kris Allen: The season eight winner’s single, “Live Like We’re Dying,” nudges up one spot to 19 on the Hot 100 and one spot to 10 among pop singles. Its peak position so far on the Hot 100 has been 18. The debut album, meanwhile, is in danger of diving right off the Billboard 200. It tumbles all the way from 92 to 172.
Kelly Clarkson: Kelly’s second album, “Breakaway,” reappears on the Billboard charts this week at number 169.
Daughtry: Chris and the guys also took a tumble on the Billboard 200 this week, from 35 to 65. But the “Life After You” single advanced three spots on the Hot 100 to number 36, its top position yet. And the debut album is still on the Billboard 200 at number 196.
Danny Gokey: “My Best Days” topples from 4 to 16 on the Billboard 200 and from three to four on the country albums chart. “My Best Days Are Ahead of Me,” the lead single, is 29 among country songs for the second straight week.
Adam Lambert: For a while, it looked like “For Your Entertainment” just might vault all the way to number one on the dance play chart. Not to be. This week, it falls from number five to number 14. But “Whataya Want From Me” hits a new high of 22 on the Hot 100 (up from 25). It’s also number 14 on the pop chart. Adam’s album is at number 71 on the Billboard 200, down from 49.
Blake Lewis: The new big riser on the dance play chart is “Heartbreak on Vinyl,” the title track from Blake’s new album. It jumps from 15 to 7 this week.
Kellie Pickler: Season five’s country gal released her second album 76 weeks ago. It’s still in the top 40 on the country album chart, checking in at number 38, down one spot from a week ago.
Ruben Studdard: The season two winner’s latest single, “Don’t Make ‘Em Like U No More,” clings to number 41 on the R&B singles chart for the third straight week.
Carrie Underwood: In addition to the success of “Temporary Home,” the album “Play On” is still number nine on the country chart and number 28 on the Billboard 200, 19 weeks after its release.
