But the show also marked the triumphant return of Carrie Underwood.
Sidelined since November by a fall at her home, Carrie performed her new single “Cry Pretty” during Sunday’s show. An hour after the show ended, “Cry Pretty” was sitting at number one on the iTunes singles chart.
Carrie also shared an ACM Award with former American Idol judge Keith Urban. They won the Vocal Event of the Year category for their duet of Keith’s hit song, “The Fighter.”
Other than Lauren Alaina’s pre-announced victory in the Best New Female Artist category, that marked the only win for a singing show star. You can check out the nominations below with the winners listed in bold.
Aldean was named Entertainer of the Year for the fourth straight time. He was accompanied to the awards by wife and former American Idol contestant Brittany Kerr Aldean.
Miranda won Female Vocalist of the Year for the tenth straight time and also won Song of the Year for “Tin Man.”
Stapleton was also a double winner, as Male Vocalist of the Year and winner of Album of the Year.
