She appeared in the 2011 film “Soul Surfer.”
She has guest starred on “How I Met Your Mother” and “Sesame Street.”
She’s hosted the CMA awards with Brad Paisley on multiple occasions and done her own Christmas special for CBS.
So why shouldn’t Carrie Underwood take on a classic musical on TV?
NBC announced Friday that Carrie will play the role of Maria von Trapp in a three-hour TV version of “The Sound of Music.”
Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will produce the show; they’re also responsible for “Smash.”
“We’re thrilled to be presenting the Broadway version of ‘The Sound of Music’ live,” said Zadan and Meron, in an NBC release, “and having Carrie Underwood as the star brings it to a new generation who will fall in love with it for the first time as many millions of people already have.
“It’s a particular joy to us as producers to see this amazing artist stretch into new territory with this classic musical.”
No word yet on who will play Max or the children. But, hey, we’ll get to hear Carrie sing “My Favorite Things” and “Do-Re-Mi.”
Be patient, though. The show probably won’t air until the 2013 holiday season, the release indicates.
