Carrie Underwood will be trying to break a male stranglehold on Entertainer of the Year honors at the CMA Awards Wednesday night.

Oh, she’ll be co-hosting again with Brad Paisley, of course. They’ve been bringing us laughs as the co-hosts of the awards show for the past eight years.

But the night’s big question is whether or not Carrie can bring home the night’s biggest honor.

A male has been named Entertainer of the Year for 13 of the past 15 years. The lone exceptions were 2009 and 2011, when Taylor Swift won.

Carrie has never even been nominated for the award, despite being named Female Vocalist of the Year in 2006, 2007 and 2008. That award has gone to Miranda Lambert for the last six years.

If Carrie doesn’t win, the male stranglehold will continue, because the other four nominees are male country stars — Keith Urban, Garth Brooks, Chris Stapleton and Luke Bryan. Luke took top honors in 2014 and 2015.

This year’s show is the 50th annual, so the CMAs have rounded up an all-star lineup of entertainers, including country legends Charley Pride and Roy Clark.

Carrie and Keith will perform too, along with Jason Aldean, Florida Georgia Line, Reba McEntire and many others.

As for the nominees, they also include another young lady with a singing show connection, Season 4 Voice winner Cassadee Pope.

Here’s a look at those singing show nominees and the competitors they’re up against.

Female Vocalist of the Year: Carrie Underwood, Kelsea Ballerini, Miranda Lambert, Maren Morris, Kacey Musgraves

Male Vocalist of the Year: Keith Urban, Eric Church, Tim McGraw, Chris Stapleton, Dierks Bentley

Album of the Year: Storyteller by Carrie Underwood, Ripcord by Keith Urban, Hero by Maren Morris, Mr. Misunderstood by Eric Church, Black by Dierks Bentley

Musical Event of the Year: “The Fighter,” Keith Urban featuring Carrie Underwood, “Think of You,” Chris Young and Cassadee Pope, “Different for Girls,” Dierks Bentley featuring Elle King, “Home Alone Tonight,” Luke Bryan featuring Karen Fairchild, “You Are My Sunshine,” Morgane Stapleton with Chris Stapleton

The CMAs will air at 8 p.m. Wednesday on ABC.
