Chevel Shepherd, the Voice champ in Season 15, released her first music video Friday.
It’s for her new single “The Letter,” and it’s a tearjerker, for sure, about a young girl whose mother dies.
But when she turns 11, her dad presents her with a special birthday message, a letter written by her mother before she passed.
The message: Persevere. Don’t give up. And, in Chevel’s words, “remember that there is someone by your side.”
Chevel told CMT.com that making the video during the pandemic was challenging, “but we rose to the occasion and made the best of it.
“I felt so proud when I got to see the finished product … Shooting a music video for one of my songs is something I’ve dreamed about since I started singing.
“Each time my mother watches it she cries. I hope the song and video reminds people of the power of music in our lives.”
“The Letter” follows “Southern Boy” and “Everyone’s Got a Story” as the first three singles the now 18-year-old Chevel has released since her win on The Voice.
“The Letter” was written by Julie Wood and Kellys Collins; David Dibble directed the video.
