While we’re all waiting to see where Phillip Phillips’ debut album lands on the Billboard chart, one of the Season 11 Idols is already making his mark.
Colton Dixon has released two singles since finishing seven on the show earlier this year.
This week, the second — “You Are” — moved up from number27 to number 23 on the Christian singles char.
Colton describes the song as a conversatio with God and it will be featured on his upcoming album, Messenger, due out sometime in January.
Asked when he found time to start working on an album while competing on Idol and then performing with the Idol tour all summer, Colton told MyFoxAtlanta last week that finishing seventh was “kind of a blessing in disguise.”
“I was able to write and get the project started,” he explained.
Speaking of touring, Colton will also be participating in The Miracle Tour next year as an opening act for Third Day.
Forty-five dates are scheduled so far, including a March 23 appearance at the Sovereign Center in Reading.
Tickets will be $25 and $35, with VIP tickets selling for $75. Those tickets are not yet on sale.

Other music chart highlights this week …
- After 55 weeks on the Billboard 200, Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger” drops off the best-selling album list for the first time. The album peaked at number two.
- Melanie Amaro, getting no help publicizing her music from the show she won last year, saw her lead single, “Don’t Fail Me Now,” drop from 8 to 18 on the dance/club play chart.
- Phillip Phillips’ “Home” might not quite reach the number one spot on the adult pop song chart. The tune drops from number two to number three behind Maroon 5’s “One More Night” and fun’s “Some Nights.”
