Who’s the contestant to beat on Season 3 of The Voice?
Some of the survivors from Team Blake and Team Adam were posed that question last week, asked to name contestants from the opposing teams whom they see as among of their toughest competitors.
And unlike contestants on American Idol, this group was willing to throw out some names, while agreeing that the overall talent level on the show is “unbelievable and amazing” in the words of Michaela Paige of Team Blake.
The names?
“I think Trevin (Hunte) is the one to beat,” said Team Blake’s Cassadee Pope, who has pretty heady musical resume of her own. “Trevin is scary as hell. He’s ridiculous. And Amanda (Brown). Because not only are they amazing, they’re so humble.”
Nicole Nelson pointed to Avery Wilson of Team Cee Lo as a top contender, calling him a “prodigy” who’s “just oozing superstar.”
Then there’s Melanie Martinez, who managed to sing and play two instruments during her blind audition. “No one is cuter than that girl,” Nicole said.
But Nicole also said viewers will be surprised during the knockout round.
“There are a lot of people (viewers) didn’t get to see much to this point who are amazing,” she said.
More names?
Thinking back to the blind auditions, Joe Kirkland pointed to MacKenzie Bourg of Team Cee Lo.
“He looks exactly like Harry Potter and Justin Bieber combined,” the Artist vs. Poet singer said.
“All those teenaged girls,” added Nicole with a laugh. “Joe, I think you’re on to something there.”
The Voice concluded its battle rounds Tuesday night and returns Monday at 8 p.m. with new knockout rounds, where two artists will be paired — each singing solo this time — with the loser heading home.

There’re some tough names here and I think the knockout rounds will be better than the battle rounds. I enjoy The Voice, and it’s turned into one of my primetime favorites. I mainly watch primetime and it’s hard to get all my shows recorded since I work in the evenings. The family gets stuck watching prerecorded events since I have all the DVRs tied up. This was always a huge issue until my coworker at DISH told me about the Hopper DVR. I can enable the PrimeTime Anytime feature and it will record all four major networks every night on one TV. This was some of the greatest news I heard and it allows the family to watch all their shows while my shows record without timers and conflicts. I’ve enjoyed using this feature for the past few months and it’s been a great way to enhance my TV enjoyment.
