Danny Gokey to go country

0

Danny GokeyDanny Gokey fans will apparently get some good news within a few weeks regarding a record deal.

Doubtless they’ve been wondering.

I mean, no sooner had season eight of Idol ended than 19 Entertainment announced the signing of winner Kris Allen, runner-up Adam Lambert and fourth-place finisher Allison Iraheta. All are expected to release albums this fall.

The contestant left out?

Gokey, of course, the early favorite in season eight, who wound up finishing third.

But in a video interview with EW.com’s Idolatry, posted Monday night, Gokey says fans should expect an announcement soon.

As for the style of music … well, this might come as a surprise. Expect modern country, Gokey says, pointing to the cross-over success of such artists as Taylor Swift and Darius Rucker.

It’s not that far of a stretch. Danny notes that he performed “Jesus Take the Wheel” and “What Hurts the Most” during the Idol finals.

(In fact, check out the season eight song by song grades at right, and you’ll see that I gave Danny some of his highest scores of the season on those performances).

Here’s a link to the video interview.
