Congrats go out to Chris Daughtry and his band mates.

Billboard updated its music charts Thursday morning, and guess who’s at number one on the album chart?

That’s right, Daughtry, with “Leave This Town,” which was released last Tuesday.

Doesn’t surprise me at all. When I picked up my copy of the CD at 5:30 p.m. on release day at Target, I got the last standard version of the album on the shelf. That’s the first time this year I’ve seen a new Idol release sell that quickly.

Of course, Daughtry’s self-titled debut album hit number one, too. But it took nine weeks to get there. That album debuted at number two on the albums chart.

It wound up selling more than 5 million copies and is stll chart-worthy, jumping all the way from 100 to 65 on the Hot 200 this week thanks, I’m sure, to the release of the new CD.

And check back tomorrow for a full rundown of Idols on the music charts.
