In a video blog just posted to his fans Tuesday afternoon, David Archuleta said he’s excited about looking forward to the future with his music career and addressed some of the changes that have taken place over the past week.
As reported earlier, David is no longer with Jive records. He has also parted ways with his management company.
And he made it sound as though he had a say in both decisions.
“There were offers to continue working with them (Jive), but it just didn’t feel like the right thing now,” David says in the video. “It just felt like the right time to part ways.”
He explained that Jive is changing; both the president and his own A&R “guy” have left the company.
And David says he feels like he’s changing as an artist as well.
For one thing, he says he’s been doing a lot of writing. And not in collaboration with others, as he did on his last album, but by himself.
“I’ve done a lot of writing in the past, but lately I’ve been just trying to focus on writing by myself and seeing what comes out of me,” David says. “It’s been really cool getting to say, ‘This is what I’m feeling. This is what I’m thinking. This is how it comes out in music.
“That’s the purpose of music anyway, right? … I’m excited for you guys to see what comes out of it.
“I want to make sure whatever it is that I’m sharing is real, and something I feel a real connection to and feel good about. That’s the most important part of music … And I’ve never really given myself time to do it.”
David refused to criticize either Jive or his management company, saying he’s enjoyed working with both. He went so far as to praise Jive for helping him get to this point in his career.
Fans will be relieved to know he has some upcoming projects in the works, things he apparently can’t share yet, but will in due time.
And David doesn’t appear to be stressing. He looked quite happy in sunny southern California, talking about riding roller coasters at Six Flags with his sister, Amber, and taking her to a rain-soaked monster truck race where they wore garbage bags because umbrellas weren’t permitted.
He thanks fans for their support in his video and, later adding: “It took me a while to realize, I have control over my life. The decisions I make — that’s what’s going to make or break, not just necessarily my career, but my life too. I’m just excited (with) the direction I’m hoping to go now with music.”

There ya go folks! David said “no more” to Jive & not the other way around! He deserves a label who truly gets his musical genius and integrity as well as his values. Well done, David & we’re excited for bigger and better things to come!
I love David. And I am so so glad he’s continuing with music. His voice is so gorgeous and expressive. And he’s a wonderful guy too. My kind of perfect.
David is like a breath of fresh air!! Love his vlog and love how positive he is about everything. With all the negative tweets & articles about how Jive “dropped” David it is nice to hear it from David’s point of view. I will always be a fan of this wonderful singer, songwriter and amazing human being! I can just imagine he and his sister at the monster truck event in their garbage bags! Ha! Ha! Love him!
So nice to see David so happy and excited for the future. Can’t wait to see what he’s got up his sleeve!
Thanks for the followup! I knew it was David’s decision, can’t wait for his new music and projects!
Thanks so much for posting David’s words and vlog. With his vlog, he not only set many fans minds at ease, but excited us! I truly feel we all have a lifetime of incredible music and beautiful honesty from this amazing person. What a breath of fresh air he is and what class he has. I will forever be a fan of David Archuleta.
Not surprised at all that David called the shot on this one. I’m happy and excited that he has a musical direction and wants to stay focused and do it his way! He is a tremendously talented artist with a long, wonderful career ahead of him. Thanks for this positive article about Archie! He deserves the best!
so Melinda Bell from WEG management was wrong when she said it was the oter way around that Jive dropped David and not David that dropped Jive, so what was up with that?
Fans still go out and buy another copy of The Other Side Of Down, I did on Saturday, support David
There were many ways of reading her original tweet. I’m thinking she was a bit vague on purpose. In any case, she should have stayed mum. Very unprofessional if you ask me.
Way to go david! Im soooo proud of you and admire you sooo much! Trust the archuleta! I will be a fan for life! Love you!
Thank you, Mark, for another great write-up. You’ve approached this situation with fairness and balance right from the start. I wonder how many of those other so-called journalists are eating their words right about now, or will they fail to write a proper follow-up? Who knows. I think too many of them lack integrity.
Isn’t it just like David to care enough to take the time to put our minds at ease..thinking we may be worried about what’s going on with his career due to rumors flying around. It’s just another reason why we love & respect him so much. What I saw in this vlog was a young man who is determined to control his OWN destiny..live his life the way he thinks it should be lived. I’m so thankful that he had this revelation early in his career so now he has many years ahead to share what HE wants us to hear from him. It makes me smile to see how “free” he seems right now. When you consider he was 16 years old on Idol & the last 3 years have been a non-stop whirlwind..this has got to be one of the most content times in his life..so much out there waiting for him, both artistically & personally. Shine on, David! <3
Do I have any doubt about the sentence, “whatever it is that I’m sharing is real and it’s something that I feel a real connection to”? Whatever comes out of him, it’s always right, good, sincere and real. He lives through music, eats with music, talks in music even sleep-sings. His music is real. As he grows, his music grows and changes and I am walking with him all along.
David is such a tremendous musical talent…whatever is coming next will be awesome!!
Thanks for getting this up so quickly. Many in the media were quick to report that he had been “dropped” by Jive but not nearly as quick to report David’s side. I agree with those who said it was unprofessional for the ex-manager to tweet that David had been released by Jive before David could address the issue. Can you ask her if David gave her permission to do so and if not, why she thought it was ok?
It does seem that she was at least a bit out of line.
David we are excited for your future as well, looking forward to hearing the new music that will transpire in his head! He’s so wise for his age 🙂
I am so pleased that this young man will be around for years. We will try not to be greedy and let him go at a slower pace giving him time to develop into the life and artistry he really wants.
David does it “his way” with class and dignity. He parts ways with his record label and management never uttering a negative word about either. This is what makes David so unique and wonderful. There is no better artist in the industry today. Have you bought his CD “The Other Side of Down?” I urge you to purchase it; you will not be disappointed!
David is just amazing. It’s why we love him so much…he takes time out of his day to let us fans know what is going on. We were worried when we heard about David not having a label & mgmt. It’s great that David is doing what he feels is right for him – going with his gut feeling. It sounds like he knows what he wants…and us loyal fans will always be here for him. I’m just happy he is continuing on with his musical career. His voice and talent are so unique — he is such a talented singer/songwriter — I hope we get to hear what he has been working on soon.
David is so talented and an exceptional person. This change in his career path will give hime time to concentrate on what is important to him right now. Good for him. I can’t wait to hear the new music he will be sharing with his fans – hopefully on tour very soon!
Thank you, Mark, for the fantastic write up! I appreciate you reporting the facts as they happen and I really appreciate a “current” picture of David! haha There are quite a few people in the media still using AI pics and that just won’t do! I mean, after all, he’s 20 now. Anyway, thanks for supporting David and letting people know that David is a class act (won’t speak negatively about anyone!) and that he is IN CHARGE. I have so much respect for this guy – he really is the exception to the rule amongst celebrities and it’s so refreshing. Not to mention the AMAZING voice and music!
