David Archuleta fans were a little upset when their Idol favorite was seemingly passed over on teen night on the FOX show a couple of weeks ago.

I mean, Idol had Miley Cyrus, Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato performing.

But there was no sign of some of Idol’s most talented former teen contestants, like David, Jordin Sparks or Allison Iraheta.

Hey, maybe Idol producers knew what they were doing all along.

Or perhaps they listened to the fans who were calling for David’s return to the Idol stage.

Either way, Idol just announced guest performers for Wednesday night’s show. They include Rihanna, Jason DeRulo and, yes, David Archuleta.

And here’s what I meant about timing.

It’s John Lennon and Paul McCartney Week on Idol, and David’s being invited back to sing “Imagine.”

The combination of David’s voice and that song made for one of the most memorable performances of season seven.

Judging from his tweets, David spent Easter weekend with his family and part of Monday watching his sister’s first softball game — in snow and hail no less. Now that’s what I call a good brother.

Anyway, his reaction to the Idol appearance, again via Twitter: an enthusiastic “woo hoo!”
See that, David fans. Idol hasn’t forgotten how popular David was (and is — thanks for reminding me, hollyre).

They were just waiting for the perfect moment to bring him back.

For anyone who forgets how special the “Imagine” performance was, here’s the video from the Idol season seven semifinals. The performance established David as one of the front-runners that year.
