David says “‘Strange World’ is really my homage to this year. Staring out of the windows at the world outside, feeling disconnected from it, and trying to find those moments that would normally exist outside, inside.“
He also spoke to Pop Culture about the new song, noting that there is hope on the horizon in the form of vaccines that could end the pandemic.
“I think it’s a hopeful message, ultimately,” he told the site. “I think we do have — fingers crossed, knock on wood — a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel and so just kind of wanting to piggyback on that vibe a little bit.”
As for the EP, it’s due out in February and can be pre-ordered from his website, where you’ll also find all sorts of exclusive offers.
David is also planning a livestream show at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19.
“Strange World” follows “Red Turns Blue” as David’s second single of 2020. Now 37, David won Season 7 of American Idol.

Love this song. Love the mix of guitars, synth, violins. Looking forward to the new EP.
