A quick look at the social media numbers would imply that Angie Miller is a lock for the American Idol crown.
I mean, her lead in Twitter followers and Facebook fans look downright intimidating.
As of noon Wednesday, Angie had 143,505 followers on Twitter. That’s almost twice Candice Glover’s 78,826.
And her lead has grown as the Idol finals have progressed.
Since April 22 alone, Angie has picked up about 32,000 Twitter followers.
During the same period, Candice has gained 17,000 and Kree has picked up about 16,000.
But before you come to the conclusion that confetti will be raining on Angie a little more than a week from now, consider this:
Jessica Sanchez was in her place just a year ago.
That’s right, Season 11 runner-up Jessica Sanchez enjoyed a sizable lead over Phillip Phillips on Twitter entering Top 3 week. In her case, about 324,000 followers to Phillip’s 278,000.
She also led in Facebook fans, about 196,000 to Phillip’s 168,000.
And we all know how that ended up.
Phillip and “Home” waltzed off with the Idol title.
Here are the Twitter and Facebook totals for Season 12’s Top 3, again as of noon Wednesday.
The number in parenthesis is the number of followers and fans back on March 13, before the finals began.
Twitter:
Angie Miller: 143,505 (44,119)
Candice Glover: 78,826 (10,396)
Kree Harrison: 74,361 (15,243)
Facebook:
Angie Miller: 85,923 (36,088)
Candice Glover: 31,137 (3,698)
Kree Harrison: 14,062 (4,096)
Check back tonight for a live blog with song by song grades as the Top 3 square off.
