Naomi Rae Gillies, Season 11, Season 11 in Vegas

End of the line for Lancaster County gal on American Idol

Only three female singers were sent home on American Idol Wednesday night.

One of them was Lancaster County’s Naomi Gillies.

Unfortunate?

Well, it was hard to determine how fair the judges’ decision was.

Certainly, there were lots of talented female singers among the final 20 in Vegas this year.

What was certainly unfortunate was that most of Naomi’s performances wound up on the cutting-room floor.

We saw her sing Aerosmith’s “Cryin'” in front of Steven Tyler during the auditions.

And that was it.  Not another Naomi performance aired on TV.

Still, it’s quite a feat to make the final 20 females among the thousands who auditioned.

And you’ve got to figure we might hear from Naomi again at some point.

The 2008 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School is now a student at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she’s majoring in performance and music business.

Her dad told the Intelligencer Journal Lancaster New Era that the family watched the first season of Idol together, and that Naomi always had auditioning for the show in the back of her mind.

And, at 22, she has several years of eligibility left, should she decide to try again.

On Facebook last night, Naomi thanked fans for their support.

“It was really an amazing experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything,” she wrote of Idol.  “And I promise, this is not the end.”

Here’s another look at Naomi’s audition and her group performance in Vegas with Marissa Pontecorvo and Hollie Cavanagh.

You can also watch a couple of pre-Idol performances by Naomi by heading here.
