He might have given her demo CD away, but Erika Zade says she would have welcomed a chair turn from Blake Shelton on The Voice.

The 20-year-old from Miami earned a spot on Season 15 of The Voice with her cover of Dua Lipa’s “New Rules.”

But after her blind audition, she shared a story of an encounter with Blake Shelton following one of his shows.

She presented him with one of her demo CDs. He promptly signed it and passed it — not back to her — but to a different fan.

Blake’s explanation: “There’s a good chance I was drinking that day.”

So was Erika still hoping for a chair turn from Blake, which would have given her the option of joining his team?

“Honestly, yes, because when I was younger I used to sing country music, so I had really looked up to him and that’s why I gave him my demo,” Erika said in a conference call with the media.

“But, I mean, it’s live and he didn’t turn, but at least I got to talk to him and that was really cool.”

And it all worked out just fine for the young singer, who classifies her original music as “dark pop.”

That’s because Voice coach Kelly Clarkson did turn.

“Kelly is the best person,” Erika said. “She’s such a good mentor. I mean, the way she instructs — you can just take everything and it’s so helpful. And she’s just the sweetest, so I love her.”

We’ll see Erika again in The Voice battle rounds. The blind auditions conclude Monday on NBC.
